16 year old Divine, doesn’t really fit in anywhere, and her only real friend is Jesus (Christ) — that is, until her family joins a new church and through the other girls in her youth group she discovers the world around her is not as it seems. Filled with an abundance of heart and humour, Vierge follows four Congolese Canadian teenage girls as they journey to navigate between the pressures of Christianity, virginity and teenage hormones.

Isabelle and Jamal's father was incarcerated for a violent crime. Though they've lived the majority of their lives without him, the stain of his actions has been on their lives ever since. Years of resentment and pain threaten to disrupt their lives when they learn of his impending release from prison. Despite the urge to continue to sweep it all under the rug, this pair of siblings is forced to come face to face with their complicated feelings and shared family trauma.

Miriam Kabongo, the prodigal daughter, is called home to the prairies for her father’s wake, arriving to a house which feels desolate without him. With sisters who have busy lives of their own, and a mother who is as impenetrable as ever, Miriam is forced to finally confront the family dynamic that has kept her away. As mourners gather over the weekend, grief collides with old wounds, generational divides, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. Bursting with life, Wake is full of heart, laughter, and plenty of family drama.
